Is there no secret hip hotel in London that is cheeper than the pack.
We are hip, but alas can't afford these prices.
We are artists working hard for the world to discover us.

London is still expensive in spite of the Euro so by definition it's a costly place if you're trading in American dollars.
I stayed at the Pavilion and liked it quite a lot.
It's very creative. Cute little themed, individually decorated rooms and tres artsy. Breakfast comes on a little tray in the a.m. and speaking of trying hard, yes they are. But you admire them for it.
It costs me the same to stay there for a week as it did for two nights at the Metropolitan.
The Portobello in Stanley Gardens might be worth investigating. They may have a deal.
Lastly if you have some time before your trip, you might try www.smarterliving.com for last minute deals or one of the sites that allows you to swap your space with a local over a holiday? We have friends who did this over the last end year holiday season (swapping their apartment for one in Paris) with great success.
