Chef Marc Murphy may have big plans for the Viceroy but our most frequently visited spot from the Ditch Plains chef is this spot inside the Time Warner Center. Part bistro, part steakhouse, this easy-going, kid and tourist-friendly restaurant benefits from being casual and all-welcoming. Classics such as the mozzarella fritters or grilled chicken Caesar salad or veal paillard work for those who aren't adventurous eaters, but dishes such as the roasted marrow bones, blistered shisito peppers, goat cheese profiteroles, a Nicoise salad, and roasted branzino (over fennel, arugula, orange and olives) appeal to those who want a bit more of a brasserie flavour. Pastas of the day rotate through such options as spaghetti carbonara, orecciette alla norcina, and linguine vongole, and appeal to all, and more than one table can be heard hoping it's a particular day while reading the menu ("is it Tuesday today, I'm after Tuesday's pasta"). Set up so that families or large groups can have booths or circular tables, and couples can squirrel themselves in on the Columbus Circle side, this cleverly designed spot also has a private dining room that can be entirely partitioned off or half partitioned off allowing private events and cocktail parties to occur at the exact same time as dates, family dining and business dinners. We all find ourselves in the mall sometimes, and more than once, we've found ourselves choosing this spot as the option that works for everyone.
