Alma Grill
134 East 48th Street
212 593 5900

The utterly fantastic Alma Grill is a calming, pint sized room which feels expansive, and though it looks out on Midtown, far removed from the bustle of the outside world. In a setting of jazz and orchids, Ralph Mercado(owner of LQ around the corner and RMM Records which started the careers of Marc Anthony, Tito Puente and Celia Cruz) serves up a refreshing citrus-dressed market salad of field greens and beets, a zesty (and hefty) succulent pork chop with creamy sweet potato and buttery haricots verts, fresh Diver sea scallops, and perfectly grilled asparagus amongst other dishes. We can't say enough about how much we enjoyed the meal we had here. Staff is friendly, easy going, funny even. Prices are delightfully reasonable (the steak at $26 is the highest priced main.) In fact, the only thing less than amazing were the desserts - and even those were pretty good - but the rest of the menu just wowed us.
