While the urban log cabin- ish decor of The Greenwich Hotel is charming -- 88 rooms and suites with no two alike, done up with Tibetan silk rugs, Sweden's Duxiana beds, and Moroccan tile bathrooms with dual shower heads -- where this hotel stands out is in service. It seems that there is nothing they can't do, don't know or won't try to make happen for you. How do we know? We ended up needing it when one of us felt a bit under the weather. From getting pitchers of hot water to tracking down Theraflu to finding Vietnamese chicken soup to simply having fresh linens when wanted, the staff here couldn't be nicer. And the result is that guests from movie stars to the wealthy- in- hiding to jewellery company owners (we saw them all) come here for a level of genial- yet- subtlely- luxurious service that they can't even get at home. Rooms start at $475 a night (the gorgeous fireplace corner suite is $1550) and it's worth every penny. Every room is stupendously quiet, with extra touches such as a complimentary snack basket and large (yet still airplane- friendly sized) McBride toiletries. A guests- only lounge decorated with DeNiro's pen & ink drawings, an outdoor garden, and Locanda Verde as the anchor restaurant caps the perfection. p.s. it's smoker friendly and dog friendly.
