Haus 285 West Broadway 212 625 4287 With so few decent nightclubs left in New York city, the opening of Haus is much anticipated as a place to dance. At 5300 square feet and in the space of the old Canal Room, the club, directed by Isaac Elbhar will feature house (what else), EDM and techno. An opening night with DJ Chelsea Leyland proved to be a mix of some dance-heads but more nightlife lovers than anything else. Specialty cocktails under the direction of Mulberry Project's Rael Petit included such flare as fire-sprayed flavors accents on the edge of glasses. Two sound booths, with the key one being on stage in front of the dance floor (no guessing what the focus is here) makes it clear though the music will be the big draw. If the club can manage to bring in some big acts to this intimate space, they might succeed at reviving Manhattan as a place to dance. |
