A former balloon factory that has been Crobar, Mezmor, and Mansion, club king Joey Morrissey gives the space continuing life as M2 Ultralounge. Maybe the mixed reviews are from those confused by the 'lounge' name. Those seeking a mega- club will be reasonably satisfied however, as this is one of the only remaining spots like it in NY. What to expect? A $35 cover if you didn't connect with the right promoter, stomping music split across two rooms (one hip hop and one 'euro' dance), celebs, aerialists, fire-eaters, scattered across the 23,320 square foot palace that looks not a bit unlike what clubs look like in movies about Manhattan. So while drinks will set you (or 2000 of your closest friends) back ($19 for a reasonable cocktail); across award- winning architect Francois Frossard's main ballroom, study, parlor, gallery, and stage covered with crystal chandeliers and disco lights, you might catch DJs Bob Sinclar and Roger Sanchez, the Pussycat Dolls, John Mayer and Keyshia Cole performing for the likes of Kanye West, Rihanna, Chloe Sevigny or Marc Jacobs.
