Can Mark Baker keep the 80s (or even the 90s) alive in New York? Well if anyone can, it's him. He's combined forces with Miami's Eric Milon (The Strand, The Living Room, The Opium Garden, Prive) to bring Milon's Mansion to NY. Already host to fashion week parties for Zac Posen and Jeremy Scott, and a Bob Sinclar night, The Opium Group and Baker (Metro CC, Flowers, Life, Buddha Bar, Lotus, The Double Seven) could singlehandedly keep club row alit. Certainly the club itself is, what with a 20 foot enclosed fireplace at the entrance. The main ballroom is 10,000 feet alone (and it's surrounded by three smaller rooms) designed by Francois Frossard, able to hold a total of over 2000 revelers. Baker has learned from his Lotus experience and now the Pucci- covered sofas are flanked by granite platforms to allow for, as they say, "spontaneous self expression." Our favourite room (though not so much its name) is the Cougar Room. Only women are allowed and there's everything from make up artists and hairdressers to 'toys' and an exclusive champagne cocktail done up with elderflower, cucumber juice, and ruby red grapefruit, exclusive to that space. For the more intellectually inclined, they've also raised the bar by creating The powerHouse Library inside the club. There, one can expect parties for book releases. Not just any kinds of books of course but ones with a fun, arch angle such as the Flight Attendants Book by Brian Finke.
