Touch 240 West 52nd Street 212 489 7656 We were wondering where we would go dancing now that club row is dead and speakeasies that actually require you to stay seated seem to have taken over. Thank heavens for this spot. Despite a multimillion-dollar renovation Touch nightclub (which is in the old Float space) looks a lot like Float to us. But that is actually A-ok because we liked it back then heaps -- and like it now a lot also. One of the last intimate dance clubs, the actually-15,000 square foot venue seems smaller, being well divided. The mezzanine, a square balcony with alcove like banquette seating, overlooks the dance floor and is almost a modern ode to the kind of Southern ball rooms where the elite would once watch from above as revellers got their groove on. Now apparently what's new is Flores & McKenty's illuminated photo panels and high-tech, interactive SensaCell bar top, but what we came for is the crowd friendly Euro dance and pop and hip hop remixes. Expect a wide range of types of folks, there's the occasional socialite and decorator mixed in with a everyone- is- welcome- from- all- boroughs crowd. |
