The Gerber Group's yacht-themed lounge and rooftop at the Viceroy New York brings a big "finally" type sigh from New Yorkers who have wanted an outdoor roof in a part of town largely ignored, but desperate for the space. Intended to be usable year-round, they've equipped the spot with heat lamps and wool blankets. The roof overlooks the bustle of 57th Street where New Yorkers and tourists alike can catch a glimpse of Central Park in the distance and watch the ever-changing horizon of crazy high rises going up around the hotel. Small-batch spirits, regionally brewed beers, and a global wine list is on offer, but the cocktails stand out such as the Spicy Paloma with tequila, Thai chili, aperol, and grapefruit soda. American bar food such as a burger with home-made American cheese and pickles and a grilled cheese of gruyère, fontina and white cheddar can be had. Those wanting a bit of a longer night will be happy to know the spot is open till 4am daily
