Death and Company 433 East 6th Street 212 388 0882 The name may scare you (it's named for a Dashiell Hammett work done in 1930), but into the former Raga space is this fabulous unmarked bar (and who needs it when at 7 PM all 54 seats are full). Behind heavy wooden doors, and the actually nice doorman, is Dave Kaplan and Ravi DeRossi's watering hole. For $10 (at press time, cash only), we liked the Jersey Tenor (it's Applejack, egg white - eek, lemon, maple and soda), Jovencourt Daiquiri (white rum, lime juice, and mescal) and the St. Matilda (Herradura Silver, pear liqueur and lemon) best. There's small plates of food too. All around, it's a superb, unpretentious bar where drinks take priority. |
