Beatrice Inn 285 West 12th Street 212 929 6165 For those who know anything about restaurant culture, the name Beatrice Inn would bring back memories. Owned by Elsie Cardia for 50 years, it closed in '05 having been legendary host to everyone from members of the Algonquin Round Table (Dorothy Parker, kids) to Cousin Brucie. It was even the setting for a Woody Allen and Mia Farrow movie (in the days before all the weirdness.) This is not that Beatrice Inn. Nope. This Beatrice Inn has all the rumblings of temporary. Despite a hipster opening with events such as Kai Kuhne's holiday party and Topic Mag's party, rumours of not having a proper liquor license and no kitchen to speak of (where is the food coming from) dog this spot owned by Paul Sevigny. Fortunately from what we can see, hipsters don't eat. They do however congregate at the bar in the white tiled front room and in the back room where merry making and smoking occurs all over the red couches. For how long is the question. |
