The Kensington Hotel 109-113 Queen's Gate 011 44 207 589 6300 In the royal borough (where all the monarchy had their residences), this South Kensington hotel in SW7 (just a few blocks from the South Ken tube) is perfect for museum junkies. It's a stone's throw from the History and Science museums as well as the V & A so if you're into cultural and health events such as Wallace and Gromit at the Science, Walking with Dinosaurs in the O2, the Dextro Energy Triathlon in Hyde Park, or the Jazz and Beer Festival in Hampton Gardens (healthy for the mind, less healthy for the waistline?); this is the hotel for you. A combination of hipster families (maybe those in denial) and out and out hipsters (a posh place down the street to hide out after your night out at Boujis perhaps?) find this residential- friendly and wallet- friendly choice (just £150 per room / £75 per person sharing) an unbeatable steal. It's also twenty minutes walking from the shopping streets of High Street Kensington and Knightsbridge (it's directly South). Small touches such as milk and cookies at turn- down service, duck down duvets, fluffy robes, large flat screen TVs, Templespa amenities make the yellow, gold and mirrored Chinoiserie rooms luxurious. There's also two computers free to use in the lobby, complimentary newspapers, and you can't miss breakfast in the hotel's restaurant where the chef experiments with scrumptious inventions of home- made madeleines, and when we were there, a muesli soaked overnight in single cream with tangerines and berries. |
