Coming Soon
At the bottom of each issue of HipBites, I list the last five new spots we've added to HipGuide Online, so you can always page down to see them. Or at www.hipguide.com, you can click "More of What’s New" to keep browsing through them.
Some of you however want to know EVEN earlier than that! We put out a quarterly report on places opening soon (bars, restaurants, hotels) with Travel and Trend sections. Here is a sneak peek of some of the spots included in it. (More information on how to get the full report down below...)

1. HipGuide Hotels
Down in Miami, Jason Pomeranc (60 Thompson) is preparing to launch a new restaurant in the Sagamore Hotel (pictured on the right). Just in time for the Winter Season and before Miami's Art Basel, the new eatery will run along the central corridor of the hotel, extending upon the garden area.
Speaking of hotels, in Los Angeles, this Winter the Kor Group (which owns HipGuide faves Avalon and Viceroy in Cali) will open the Chamberlain hotel in West Hollywood.
Also in La-la, Jeff Klein (City Club in NYC) will be opening a redone Argyle Hotel next Spring.
Back in good ole NYC, David LaChapelle and Deepak Chopra have created the cutesy- sounding "Hautel Couture" with hotel master Vikram Chatwal. Chatwal, sick of hearing the words "boutique hotel", will launch Dream Hotel. Rooms will include loaded iPods and 37 inch Plasma screens. Expect three exclusive lobby bars.
Meanwhile Andre Balazs (The Standard in L.A.) is reversing coasts. He's planning a Standard for Manhattan on the block where the West Side Highway, Little West 12th, West 13th Streets and Washington come together. A Miami Standard is in the works for October.
2. HipGuide Bars and Restaurants
Down the street on Little West 12th, Jeffrey Jah (Lotus) and Lyman Carter (or Mr. Amy Wesson) will be doing The Inn, a 3 floor restaurant decorated to be a tribute to their native Canada.
Spots within hotels are also planned in the real Canada. From the same team that's done the currently scorching hot Teatro in the Vegas MGM Grand, comes two new bars in the new W Hotel in Montreal. Scheduled to open at the end of August.
In Vegas, Marc Packer (Tao, Cipriani) is opening a companion nightclub and restaurant to his NYC midtown Tao in the Venetian Hotel.
In another gambling town, this Fall the Borgata won't be alone in attempting to remake Atlantic City; Cuba Libre - a restaurant and rum bar - is opening in The Quarter at Tropicana Casino & Resort.
Joining Cuba Libre and Mexican- of- the- moment Ixta in redefining the Latin fare available on the East Coast, will be Patrico Sandoval (previously of Maya and Hawthorne Lane in San Francisco), Darin Rubell (yes - that Rubell, nephew of Studio 54 owner Steve) and Brian Dunne's Mercadito - "small market" in Spanish. Opening it's doors in NY on Mexican Independence Day (September 15th), it will be traditional Mexican food but with "flare."
In L.A. around October, Hollywood impresarios Lonnie Moore & Mike Malin, of Dolce and Belly fame, will be unveiling restaurant Geisha House (with a huge list of celebrity investors).
The celebs will be calling it a Mombasa bag come to life as Jamie Mulholland (Lotus, P.M., Quo) and "it" designer Robert McKinley (PM, Table50) allows them into Cain on West 27th Street in NYC.
3. HipGuide Shopping
Further downtown, at the end of September, chocolate king Jacques Torres will be opening an 8,000 square foot new manufacturing and retail/cafe at 350 Hudson Street appropriately called Jacques Torres Chocolate Haven.
If chocolate isn't enough for you, Vanessa Noel, couture shoe designer to the uptown Vogue set, will throw open the doors to her shoe boutique. The space will also have her prêt- a- porter line, Vanno, a bridal shoe salon for both brands, and a gallery space.
4. HipGuide Members
Over in London, Jean Louis and Gilbert Costes have scooped up Mayfair restaurant Scott's and Home House. They plan to make the Portman Square spot a members- only club of their own, which shouldn't be too hard considering Home House already has Leonardo di Caprio, Sting and Madonna as members.
And you heard it here first, we're told that Soho House is scoping out L.A.
